Black Lion Hotel Richmond

Welcome to the Black Lion Hotel in the heart of Richmond North Yorkshire. Once an elegant Georgian coach house, we’re now a 3* AAA Gold Award family-run hotel where you’ll find a warm friendly welcome. Our warm, attentive staff will be on hand to help you with anything you require, and from your host Les all the way down, we’re committed to making sure your stay is perfect from the moment you walk through the door. Step inside our award-winning bar, and you can relax in front of cheery open log fires and enjoy a range of beers, wines and spirits, as well as cask ales like Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors and more.

Guests can dine in our Snug next to the bar, or in the first-floor Bistro Restaurant and Function Room. With seating for up to forty guests, the Bistro can accommodate weddings, parties, christenings and business meetings in stylish surroundings. Our extensive menu covers modern takes on classics and light bites as well as more traditional fare. We have everything from fresh Mediterranean flavours, delicate pates and salads to hearty roasts and generous steaks, and we’re always happy to rearrange it for you, so just ask!

Sleeping at the Black Lion Hotel means spacious single, double, twin and family en-suite rooms with TV and room service and Free 80mb Fibre Optic WiFi in all rooms. We’re non-smoking throughout, pet-friendly and rambler-friendly, so you can bring your dog to one of Britain’s greatest outdoor playgrounds with confidence. We also offer storage facilities for bicycles and laundry facilities for those avid walkers.

Richmond is one of the most popular places to start a holiday in the Northern Dales and our staff can help you explore the town or give directions to attractions further afield. We’re aware that many of our guests want to combine adventure with comfort and those who have come to canoe the Swale, climb some of the country’s best gritstone crags or bike everything from long wooded routes to hair-raising downhill trails will find us ready and waiting to welcome you. Whether you’re here to explore White Scar Cave, walk the Three Peaks or take in the history on the Coast to Coast walk, we can help you find it and enjoy it – and when you’re finished we can help you relax in good company afterwards!

The Black Lion is situated just off the Market Square right in the centre of the town and almost opposite the Friary Gardens, one of Richmond’s most famous mediaeval monuments and a good place to start exploring the heritage of the town. A short walk around the corner brings you to the centre of Richmond with its wealth of Norman, Mediaeval and Georgian architecture including one of the oldest and largest cobbled squares in England.

Richmond dates back to the 11th Century and besides being known as the ‘gateway to the Dales’ it is also a beautiful and fascinating town that draws visitors from around the world. There’s something for history lovers, a thriving contemporary art gallery and cinema and a range of small music venues and theatres too.

If you’re planning a trip to the area, or you’re passing through and looking for somewhere cozy to spend the night or enjoy a wholesome locally sourced meal in attractive dog friendly surroundings, give us a call and find out what The Black Lion can offer you. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
